At Neighbourhood Centre Dental Practice (Dentapoole) on Culliford Crescent (BH17), we are proud to be one of Poole’s leading NHS dentists. With approximately 85% of our services dedicated to NHS patients, we’re committed to making high-quality dental care accessible to everyone in our community. Here’s everything you need to know about NHS dental charges in Poole and what each band of treatment includes.

How Do NHS Dental Charges Work?

Icon

Simple, fixed-cost treatment – you only ever pay once per course of care.

NHS dental treatment in England is divided into three charge bands. The band you pay depends on the type of treatment you need – not the number of appointments required to complete it. This means that even if your treatment takes several visits, you will only pay one fixed charge for the entire course of treatment.

This system is designed to keep dental care affordable and transparent. At Dentapoole, we will always tell you which band your treatment falls into before we begin, so there are never any surprises.

The three NHS charge bands (effective from April 2026) are:

  • Band 1 – £27.90
  • Band 2 – £76.60
  • Band 3 – £332.10

If you are exempt from NHS charges – for example, if you are pregnant, under 18, or receive certain benefits – your treatment may be completely free of charge. See our exemptions section below for full details.

What Does Each Band Include?

A full breakdown of what your NHS charge covers.

Band 1 – £27.90 Band 1 covers essential assessment and preventive care, including:

  • A full dental examination and diagnosis
  • X-rays where clinically necessary
  • A scale and polish if clinically needed
  • Application of fluoride varnish or fissure sealant
  • Advice on how to prevent future dental problems

If you require urgent dental care, even if your treatment needs more than one appointment to complete, you will only pay one Band 1 charge.

Band 2 – £76.60 Band 2 covers everything in Band 1, plus any additional treatment required to restore your oral health, including:

  • Fillings (one or more)
  • Root canal treatment
  • Tooth extractions (one or more teeth)
  • Any combination of the above within a single course of treatment

Band 3 – £332.10 Band 3 covers everything in Bands 1 and 2, plus more complex restorative work, including:

  • Dental crowns
  • Dentures (full or partial)
  • Bridges

Band 3 represents the highest level of NHS dental treatment and includes laboratory-made restorations crafted specifically for you.

Some of our lovely REVIEWS

Helpful and Friendly

I have just joined the dental practice and found the staff very professional. The dentist and dental nurse were very helpful and friendly. Felt at ease and I received a lot of useful information about the condition of my teeth. My last dentist felt like I was going through a car wash so it’s nice to be treated as a patient not a customer.

One of best I’ve experienced

I've been with this dental practice for around 10 years and I have to say this is one of best I have ever experienced. I finally decided to have some wonky front teeth sorted here, and they did an absolutely amazing job. Definitely 5 stars!

Would highly recommend this service

What an absolutely fantastic experience. Since moving to Dorset I've been concerned about finding a new dentist as I've had bad experiences in the past. I needn't have worried. Friendly helpful and professional from the moment I walked through the door. Would highly recommend this service. If I could give 6 starts I would. Thanks to all the staff at The Neighbourhood Centre

What a lovely practice this is

The girls on reception help make coming to the Dentist a great experience they are both chatty and always very welcoming to me and my wife. The Dentist was also very kind and explained all our treatment options clearly. We then saw the hygienist last week and she is also brilliant, was very chatty which put me at ease during my clean. What a lovely practice this is.

I highly recommend this practice

After leaving a dentist who neglected issues I had, I am so happy to have found a dentist who is such a credit to her profession. The reception staff are really helpful too. My dentist and her dental nurse provided excellent care and made me feel so at ease. I highly recommend this practice. They also made the dentist experience an easy one for my daughter. She is only 2 and they were so patient with her and made sure she didn't feel scared. This meant a lot to me knowing future visits will be easy.

They really put me at ease

My dental experience was very positive mainly due to the friendly and relaxing manner of the dentist and her assistant. They really put me at ease both during my check up and when I had a filling. My dentist was very informative throughout with regards to treatment options.
